Went to orthodontist today in hopes of fixing my horrendous bite but was told that it would come at the cost of taking a tooth out of my lower jaw for space, I find this odd given my teeth are retruded on both my lower and upper jaw (my logic is given that both sets are retruded as outward expansion occurs it will naturally give space between the teeth). Structurally both jaws are fine so I have no interest in changes via surgery (he said that it is unnecessary but if I really wanted I could receive lower jaw surgery only which would kill my face) or tooth extraction so I am curious as to what my best course of action would be given the circumstances, is this ortho retarded or am I?

Consult with more orthodontists and try and speak with them, at the end of the day they're still human and you can give them a preposition that eventually will click and make them think "that might work" explain your thought process and see what they say. You could also just have a braindead ortho that wants money. My first ortho wanted to do a quad extraction and put me in braces at 13, luckily i talked with a few more orthos and did some research and i escaped that. You have a class 3 malocclusion (underbite) but i wanna see a side profile to see if surgery is necessary/ if you can fix it with purely orthodontics

Your upper jaw is definitely in need of widening tho. Your lower teeth eclipse it even with them being more retruded than your top teeth. Still need a side profile pic to see if a double jaw is needed or not

Looking at other orthos rn just trying to figure out best way to articulate it once there, I tried to ask the guy if he could do anything for me given the current bite I have and he wouldn't budge, taking side pic rq

ive had my face analyzed previously and none of them mentioned any irregularities in either jaws

I have enough available for surgery if its really really necessary but I just don't feel like it is idk
I would recommend going to other orthos and getting consultations but I don’t think u need surgery from what I can see

Depending on how diligently you wear your elastics it could work, you do have a slight maxillary recession tho
Sounds good, will speak to other orthos and see what's possible, jaw surgery seems so cancer given its total difference.
