...and everyone gaslighted me about it when I was a kid. He was supposed to say "That's one small step for *a* man, one giant leap for mankind" but he actually said "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind". That sentence structure confused me as a kid, it was a contradiction, 'man' in the context he said it was synonymous with 'mankind', but no one would state the obvious and point out that the sentence sounded awkward because he fucked it up.
