I measured the width/height ratio of my tv, and then compared it to the ratio of two pics taken with my cellphone cam: one using the highest 64 mp resolution (no option for zoom in this res), and the other one using a 16 mp resolution using a 2x zoom. These are the results:
Real ratio: 1.55
1st pic: 1.46
2nd pic: 1.54
These results show that when using the highest, default aspect ratio of my cam, the image becomes severely distorted. In a selfie, it makes faces look longer and narrower. Meanwhile if I change the aspect ratio to the second highest resolution and use zoom, the image resembles pretty accurately real life proportions.
Needless to say, in a selfie a look much worse when using the 1st pic aspect ratio, while when using the 2nd pic aspect ratio my face looks less worse and more similar to how I see myself.
