Now, about dosing. The way PTH analogs work is pretty unique. These drugs need to be injected once daily, creating a short burst of hormone that tells your bones to build more tissue. Continuous exposure, like constant high blood levels, actually causes bone breakdown instead of growth. So timing and dosing are everything.

For therapeutic use, the standard dose of teriparatide is 20 micrograms per day injected under the skin, while abaloparatide is typically dosed slightly higher at 80 micrograms daily. Treatment length is capped at 18 to 24 months to avoid potential risks noted in animal studies, although in humans this risk remains theoretical and extremely rare. This means most patients get a year or two of treatment at most.
