Rapid glucose spikes happen when blood sugar rises very quickly after eating highly refined, high glycemic foods.

Examples:

  • soda
  • candy
  • pastries
  • sugary cereal
  • white bread

Inflammation
Frequent glucose spikes increase inflammatory signaling in the body.
Over time this will cause:
  • redness
  • puffiness
  • poorer skin texture
  • dull appearance

Oil Production & Acne
Large insulin spikes can increase oil production and worsen acne in susceptible people. This is one reason high sugar diets are often associated with worse skin quality.

Glycation Damage
One of the biggest issues is glycation.
Excess glucose can bind to collagen and elastin, forming compounds called AGEs. Over time this will reduce:

  • skin elasticity
  • firmness
  • smooth texture
  • youthful appearance

The problem usually isn’t carbs themselves it’s the spikes it the highly refined foods that cause it. Stable blood sugar is one of the most underrated factors for maintaining high skin quality long term.
