he'll be fine, beginners can get away with bulking in a small deficit, it's not until you're like 2~ years into training that you can't gain shit without a big surplus.

of course it's not optimal but he's probably afraid of losing his abs, the novelty of having them wears off eventually.

Is a 500 calorie surplus fine?

Okay, I’ll bulk for 3 months at a 400-500 surplus
that's a bit short, don't be afraid to do a small cut (losing fat is a relatively fast process compared to bulking) and then bulking again after a few months.

How long of a bulking time span and then cut span do you recommend?

as long as possible without getting too fat because you don't want to end up with stretch marks.

you can lose 0.5% body-fat every week without much effort more if you try, so cutting only takes a few weeks at most.

Doesn’t the fat the muscle ratio for cutting increase as you gain fat? You’re muscle retention is less?

yes but the cut off for that is somewhere in the higher teens, you shouldn't bulk to 20% bodyfat.

Is it over for me if every time I try to “bulk” (dirty or not), I just end up looking fatter (higher bf%) without actually getting any mass

did you forget to lift?

honestly most people do too much variety to really focus on getting strong at one singular lift, which is what you want to do when you're struggling with bulking, i.e don't give the squats or deadlifts your all but really go all out on bench for example.

they try to increase all lifts all at once which just overloads their nervous system and fatigues them too much to really succeed at any of it.

Nah, lifted for 3 years and during bulks 4-5 times a week. Im just horribly capped it feels like. Considering a cycle soon…

So I think I’ll stop bulking at around the 19 percent range

Nigga go on a bulk bulk not a lean bulk you need some meat on ya bones

should probably go to 170 or higher you have wide clavicles and good delt inserts, youd look really good with +10-20lbs of muscle

Facts, I’m consuming 3000 cal and 130 protein for the past 3 weeks. Going to do this for about 6 months and then make decision to continue bulk or cut
