Your mentalis muscle, otherwise known as your chin muscle, is essential toward the harmony of your lower third/mouth area (and overall face)
too pudgy/thick of a mentalis muscle can make your chin look less sharp and thus less attractive
for example, compare these two:
(yes their chin projection is different too but thats not the point, look at the pudginess of leo's chin muscle from the side view)
chico has a perfect balance for his mentalis muscle all throughout, and it's not too pudgy allowing his chin to look sharp from the front and giving presence to his chin bone:
it can make a huge difference from both the front and the side
however, a trait that i consider even more important than how large/pudgy your chin muscle is, would be your mentalis muscle insertion
a good mentalis muscle insertion would be, that the insertion point is ideally as close to the lower lip as possible, if not directly below it
having an insertion point relatively far from your lower lip can make you look dumb, primitive and unattractive
for example:
the black arrow points to the insertion point, the red part shows the distance between the lower lip and the insertion point, you can tell how huge that is
like i said, having a low mentalis muscle insertion makes you look primitive and unattractive
pictures of people with low insertion points:
@MakinItHappen (the subhuman to the left) has a very low insertion point, one of the many, MANY traits that make him subhuman
an ideal, perfect mentalis muscle insertion point would be like this:
So what can you do if your mentalis muscle insertion is sub-ideal?
along with your insertion point, theres also the mentolabial fold
a mentolabial fold is a groove/line/crease where your mentalis muscle insertion point lies
different people's mentolabial folds have different depths
the deeper the fold the more prominent the line and therfore the more unattractive
most people have a invisible/nonexistant or extremely shallow mentolabial folds, it can become more prominent with age due to depleting fat pad stores in your face.
how deep/prominent your mentolabial fold is, is genetic. however, people can often develop mentolabial folds/deeper mentolabial folds whenever they get surgery on their chin (e.g. genioplasty or chin implant)
if you want to avoid deepening/developing a mentolabial fold when having surgery done on your chin, i would suggest going for a chin shield surgery (its the exact same method as a conventional genioplasty except modified to allow for more projection increase while lowering risk of deepening mentolabial fold)
a last part about your mentolabial fold, having a slightly below average mentalis muscle insertion can usually be alright, however if coupled with a slightly prominent mentolabial fold it can negatively affect your harmony.
