By laying down in your bed while awake, when bedtme actually comes, you're brain will treat the bed as a cushion rather than a sleeping area. Your body has adapted to the sleeping position and doesn't recognize that you're trying to sleep. Meanwhile, if you've been sitting down at your desk the whole day, it will reserve your bed as only a place to sleep. So when you climb into bed, not only will you feel more comfortable, you'll fall asleep quicker.
This helped me get rid of most of my insomnia + melotonin.
Also when you're lying in bed, because your body is in rest position, you won't be motivated to do anything. It encourages lethargy and rotting. I feel a lot better on the weekends, when I immediately get up. When I lay in bed for an hour or so, maybe check snapchat or instagram, i've wasted time, and don't feel ready for the day.
