Yeah I don't care what Christians/Muslims think about my religion.
All the "stories" in the Puranas("mythology") are supposed to be cryptic metaphorical meanings about Theology i.e. the attributes of God. Like for example the birth of Ganesha story where He was asked by Durga to guard her bathroom meaning He has access to the barrier between two realms as He is the Opener/Remover of Obstacles. Opening implies creating unity between two separated regions and allowing things to flow between them.
That's why His mount is a mouse, as you know mice bury and travel through channels.
His chief weapon is an axe because you can't poke a hole through a wall with a sword or a bow and arrow but an axe is perfect, it's sharper than a hammer.
The closest religion to Hindu theology is Islamic theology. Where we expound on the attributes of God.
Lord Ganesha as per Hinduism is Al-Fattah attribute/name of Allah.
Judaism and Christianity has none of this.
