why should somebody either choose to get implants or to just realign the bone altogehter?

does a person with for example extreme chin recession, need the entire mandible moved forward as opposed to simply getting implants?

if thats the case, how can a person decide whats best for them?

It all depends on course, but you kind of answered your own question, it depends on the severity of the issue.

A recession like this, requires jaw surgery, getting implants and having them stick and look good isn't an easy job, plus it's not doing much about the functional issues of the jaw:

I can't really tell you what needs implants and what needs bone remodeling, there are too many possibilities, but as a rule of thumb, typically when its causing functional issues (problems breathing, speaking, swallowing) then implants are not an option at all, on other cases either bone remodeling or implants work fine, despite what anybody tells you.

Some people say implants are better to fix a recession, others say surgery is best, I personally believe you should do whatever you want, both have their issues. With implants there's some degree of control since the implant is made in a CAD and printed, so it is as precise as it can get, but there's a greater risk of your body rejecting it. With bone remodeling there's no risk of the body rejecting the surgery, it's your own bone after all, but there's greater risk of nerve damage, more recovery time and the surgery is in general much more invade, as a plus however the repositioned bone will eventually "fuse" into the rest of your bone (it can happen with implants too, but that's more complicated, and usually not good).
