anxiety is on average worse as it makes one second guess everything
mild depression like u said may be of use in making one more decisive, non-chalant and low inhib - easier to achieve goals as u arent second guessing one's actions.
but severe depression leads to death which is the ultimate failo as one ceases to exist not only in this realm but in the realm of other peoples consciousness (unless one does something of note - even then remembrance is fleeting)
