Why are Indians so nationalistic when India is such a shit country?

Their economy is shit, they are amongst the poorest nations in the world, their military is shit and bought off western nations (they don't even know how to produce an indigenous handgun), their infrastructure is shit, their sanitation is atrocious, their healthcare is shit, their life expectancy is shit, their education is shit, their standard of living is shit, their innovation is non-existent, their soft power is shit, their IQ shit, their cultural perception is laughable, and they also smell like shit.

In fact the the shittiness of India can be summed up in a single sentence: the life goal of any high-achieving Indian is to get out of India and settle in a western nation. Brutal.

The only thing India isn't shit at is, unironically, shitting without the assistance of toilets

So how does this street-shitting nation of 1.4 billion become so nationalistic? What's there to be nationalistic about? I don't get it. Indians must be the greatest copers of all time.
