Why do I hear bone clicking when I thumbpull

I hear bone clicking (like finger cracking but deeper) is this because of my tmj? it feels like its coming from my neck or something or the back of my head

also fyi by tmj i mean my jaw can move more freely, i dont even know if I have tmj (just 1 side)
