Why do some wisdom teeth fail to erupt while others do and cause dental crowding?

Why do some wisdom teeth erupt normally but cause dental crowding (in someone with recession) vs not erupting and remaining buried causing pain etc

All of mine erupted normally but caused crowding in my recessed class III upper palate, my bottom ones are fine though
