Will braces descend me

I’m planning on getting braces for a gap in my two front (not to large) but from my dentist I was told that my teeth would be pushed back. Now my side profile isn’t cooked or crazy receded it’s average with its chin projection with every other part of my side profile being actually pretty decent. So what I’m asking is if it will make me look more recessed or will it help maxillary projection

your incorrect bite may have made your chin look more pronounced. but after the teeth being aligned your bite would go back to normal... meaning your chin was always naturally recessed a bit. This is only for extreme cases.

how old are you. Also think of it as like sticks in a playdoh. Your teeth being the stick playdoh being your gums and bone. Now try to align the thin sticks next to each other that are in the playdoh. You will notice that the sticks would move but not the entire playdoh base. Yes there would be some tension and the sticks would try to go back to being misaligned... And that's because they give you retainers to hold the teeth aligned even after braces.

it's not "dentist/orthodontist".. it's important you go to a real orthodontist. I mean, a good dentist will still refer you to an orthodontist if your case isn't extremely simple, but still.

Can braces descend you? Depends. If they remove teeth to correct your bite, yes it will descend you in a lot of cases. Sometime it can help if you have underbite. If anything, braces can really help ascend you. May help with minor lower third asymmetries (if you have a crossbite, for example). If you can incorrect angulations and/or crowding, can help the appearance and fullness of your lips.

In terms of projections or maxillary development... depends on your age. If you're on here, I'd say more likely no. They are treatments like a palate expander that can increase your airway and allow you to develop properly and avoid issues like crowding or avoid the need for braces overall.

Unfortunately, in majority of cases dentists only care about a perfect bite. So they push it back when you don't need it. THIS IS STUPID. THEY SHOULD BE FIRED AND PUT IN JAIL.

The amount of horror stories about camouflage orthodontics should tell you that just because they're a dentist doesn't mean "they know what they're doing".

You definitely need braces. You might need jaw surgery. Make sure you're working with someone who takes facial aesthetics into account, NOT someone who just wants to "straighten your teeth". I actually can't believe this is a real reply from someone with 1000 posts.

no. they are meant to align your teeth and correct your bite. What's "shit" is the reason why you had to get them in the first place. And that is because of the lack of space to help support your teeth. Causing them to be crowded. Without proper space in your upper palate and lower jaw. The only other option to get straight teeth is through braces.

your chin doesn't change shape with braces. You just had horrible teeth alignment which made your lower jaw look more projected. You looking recessed after braces is the normal you. Someone who became recessed after braces didn't "become" recessed, they always were, they just like to blame others but themselves.

im 17 i dont have terrible crowding or anything its legit just a gap and a really slight overbite

Where could I find someone who does this? I think my problem isn't crowding since i can put my tongue on the top of my mouth without touching my teeth apart from the far back teeth. Would you suggest i get a pallet expander and then braces or?

go to an orthodontist instead of a dentist. might need to get a second opinion if they recommend the same thing. I personally had to go to 2 orthos, cause the first one wanted to use elastics and recess me. Second one said jaw surgery was recommended although they said I could go the elastics route if I really wanted, they just didn't think it would be an effective treatment. So some are just cucks tbh

tell them exactly that: "I want to improve my maxilla and chin projection". don't think braces can help with that in most cases if you're already a teenager (I'm assuming). never hurts to ask tho
