The Nixon/JFK story is a myth I'm pretty sure, the reason radio listeners favoured Nixon is because most radio users were poorer and from the rural South, so they naturally favoured Nixon the Republican over New England elite JFK. Likewise the people watching on TV were mostly Democrats.
