Out of the 46 presidents of the United States, only 5 have had brown eyes. My goal here is to go deeper into the shades of color, rather than vague words like “blue” or “brown”.

I’ll be using the official 2002 eye color chart for my ranking. No president has had green eyes nor have any been albino, so that excludes red for obvious reasons.

I also will only be looking for individual shades in presidents with photographs as paintings are unreliable and often exaggerate how light someone’s eyes are.

Dark Brown (T50-T20)
A987E66E 7D3F 42DD BC36 A1D59D15AF96

All 5 presidents with brown eyes had a darker shade of brown from what I can find. Nothing special about these eyes, 70% of the population has this color.

Richard Nixon
Chester A Arthur
Lyndon B Johnson
John Quincy Adams
Andrew Johnson

Hazel (Mix of Green and Brown)

This section is kind of sketchy and debated. Here’s which presidents fall under the hazel color category

Thomas Jefferson
Zachary Taylor
Herbert Hoover

Dark Blue (A60)

the vast, vast majority of presidents have this shade of color. Over 95% of people with blue eyes have A60, which is essentially just a dark blue.

I’m going to go ahead and put every president with blue eyes prior to Andrew Jackson in this category, as no photographs exist of them.

  1. George Washington
  2. John Adams
  3. James Madison
  4. James Monroe
  5. Andrew Jackson
  6. Martin Van Buren
  7. John Tyler
  8. James K. Polk
  9. Millard Fillmore
  10. Franklin Pierce
  11. James Buchanan
  12. Rutherford B. Hayes
  13. Grover Cleveland
  14. William McKinley
  15. William Howard Taft
  16. Woodrow Wilson
  17. Warren G. Harding
  18. Calvin Coolidge
  19. Franklin D. Roosevelt
  20. Harry S. Truman
  21. Dwight D. Eisenhower
  22. John F. Kennedy
  23. Bill Clinton
  24. George W. Bush
  25. Donald J. TrumP

This color, just a shade lighter than A60 is significantly rarer and only present in 6 presidents

George HW Bush (A40)

Ronald Reagan (A50)

Ulysses S Grant (A40)

Light Blue Eyes (A30-A10)

There are only 2 presidents with any color under A40. These shades are extremely rare, even among Europeans.

Rutherford B Hayes (A20 borderline A10)

Note: Jimmy’s eyes are listed as hazel. They are clearly not hazel, but it’s hard to say exactly what shade they are.

Rutherford’s look insanely light and almost A10. If he had a full head of hair he’d be a legit chad

Yeah relative to brown/green/gray but the lighter the blue is the better. Most of the time you won’t be able to notice the blue in darker shades
