If you take a mirror pic you know what you look like. Selfies out of a reasonable distance aren’t distorted much. 6 ft should be enough to have almost none.

If you take mirror selfies it more or less negates the lens distortion effect. a 6ft mirror selfie is really a 12ft selfie. There is still some slight distortion, and phones can't process contrast and depth properly (even the best ones) but it's a big improvement.

If you really care that much about your pics then get a used DSLR on ebay or something. You can find them for about 100 dollars.

No i know Snapchat does not mirror your face but apple adds processing to photos like sharpening and color correction to try and get a clearer photo especially when people take a shaky photo so it ends up highlighting folds, lines, uneven skin tones that don’t match up to how others would see you irl (especially in shit lighting) snapchat does not, and you kind of get a more less processed more realistic photo. I feel like for the distant future the best way to get the most accurate photo of yourself would be a mirrorless camera with a proper lens

I did a test with my friend (who says the same as you) and he told me i looked the same in the mirror and he looked the same to me aswell so i guess a mirror would be a great way to assess yourself a true mirror would be better though as you’d see exactly what others see
