I had this same question aswell, so I went ahead and ditched my retainers like 2 weeks ago and now I feel like my palate has expanded a LITTLE BIT from doing things like open mouth chewing and mewing, and I'll keep going to see if I can make a drastic difference. As long as you maintain good oral posture your teeth shouldn't crook imo
