A new study from the University of Oslo is challenging decades of sleep research, suggesting that individuals who sleep 4–5 hours a night show improved cellular longevity compared to 7–8 hour sleepers. Lead researcher Dr. Stefan Mikkelsen states, “Our findings indicate that mild sleep restriction may trigger a stress response that strengthens mitochondria, potentially extending lifespan.” Critics, however, call the study “reckless” and warn that chronic sleep deprivation is linked to heart disease and cognitive decline.
