Anyone done this before? I think I might be mouthbreathing during sleep because my throat tends to be kind of dry upon waking up and my voice is chronically hoarse/weak most of the time, especially when I sleep for very long. For this reason, I avoid talking as much as possible. I'm gonna try and see whether taping my mouth before bed makes any difference. Both my father and half brother suffer from hoarse voice and my father is a snorer. So that might be it.

On the other hand, I sometimes wake up with a sore, clenched jaw which would probably mean I haven't slept with my mouth open...

Even if you tape your mouth, it doesnt prevent your mouth from staying open
Even if your lips are closed you can still open your jaws

Lol

If you tape your mouth properly you should be able to mitigate it. Do you mouthbreath during the day too or…?
Also it seems you're clenching your jaw at night. Do you mew (dedsrs)?

I don't mouthbreathe during the day for most of the time. I might be clenching just temporarily during sleep and mouthbreathe temporarily, no idea

I'm primarily looking to prevent my throat/vocal cords from drying out from mouthbreathing. This isn't supposed to be about mewing or oral posture

It absolutely is about oral posture. If you mew properly and get into the habit of it your body will naturally breathe using the nose during the night. Tape your mouth but above all try to maintain proper oral posture during the day at all times. It will also help with the clenching

yeah check out the great work forum

Which kind of tape are you using? Observed any differences (with regards to your voice or throat)?

use nafazoline spray or oral ephedrine to avoid having a stuffy nose while you sleep

Yes it's actually good for you but use tape that won't be too tight or some shit

This is what I did, realised my shit got blocked from allergies and I was mouthbreathing at night

I don't have allergies or a stuffed nose tho
Tape I guess then
Do you chew? I feel like chewing made my resting mouth position easier

Yes I do. Like I said, clenched jaw upon waking up sometimes. Chewing doesn't seem to help with dry throat/hoarse voice tho. It's just a theory, I might not be mouthbreathing or snoring at night at all but it seemed to be a possible culprit to me

Check for saliva on your pillow it’s the most obvious giveaway

I almost never had that. Guess I'm just gonna try if taping helps or not and report back if it does

Use boxing mouth guard

This is the one I use, it doesn’t usually come off in the night and it’s cheaper than the rolls of tape
