Q: Why do we find the things we find attractive attractive?

A: ELONGATION.

We humans love the aesthetic of elongated shapes.

Shapes that are longer on least 1 axis look better than shapes that have roughly equal dimensions on all 3 axes.

We generally prefer:
  • long penises > choads
  • narrow noses > wide noses
  • tall height > short height
  • forward-grown facial profiles > flat facial profiles
  • skinny > fat
  • long legs > short legs
  • thin electronic devices > thick electronic devices
  • wide aspect ratios > squarish aspect ratios
  • sleek-looking products > clunky-looking products
  • skyscrapers > short buildings
  • etc.
Don't believe me? Look at the doorknob and the door handle:

Which one looks better? Probably the lever-style door handle, right?
