Well obviously, I know there's other factors like genetics but as a teenager (15), is taking let's say 3,000IU's (maybe 2 if 3 is too much) beneficial for an increase in bonemass? That being zygos, maybe my chin. I know vitamin d helps with muscle building and bone health/growth, something to do with calcium.

Would it be of good use for a teenager? I already get enough sun exposure, but i was thinking to up it. I take as much vitamins everyday as I can get my hands on, c & d through pills and the rest of the alphabet through food.

yeah vitamin d promotes osteoblast differentiation, but once your blood 25(OH)D level reaches 30-50 ng/mL (75-125 nmol/L), your bones and calcium levels are already optimized. above that there's not much difference.


if theres a deficiency (<20 ng/mL), you can see improved bone mineral density when supplemented w 600-2K IU/day.

sufficient levels (>30 ng/dL) = no further improvement in BMD/growth.

your facial bone growth is genetically regulated by hGH, IGF-1, T, nutrition (protein, calcium, phosphorus etc). So beyond correcting deficiency, vit d supplementation doesn't do much.

You say you get sunexposure?
Then depending upon your phototype and the UV levels in your geography you most probably don’t need VIT D supps.
Also the Cholecalciferol(D3) produced by sunlight exposure is far superior to synthetic Cholecalciferol as it is sulfated and supps aren’t .
I am pretty sure no room rotting nugget here will tell you this. Best is to get sunexposure at 12 at noon . Thank me later !

at your age, your bones are already in their peak anabolic phase. If your GH, calcium, testosterone levels are in good range, your skeleton is functioning at maximum physiological capacity.
Extra calcium/vit d beyond what your body needs won't make your bones denser/larger (bone formation becomes substrate-saturated). But it's better to max out everything that's in your control (obv).

and the IGF-1 signaling -
1. GH binds to GH receptors (GHR) on liver cells.
2. This leads to JAK2-STAT5 signaling, which then leads to igf-1 synthesis.
3. igf-1 enters circulation and binds to IGF1R on: i) growth plate chondrocytes (height increase), ii) osteoblasts (increased bone matrix formation), iii) myocytes (muscle hypertrophy)
4. igf-1 activates PI3K-Akt and MAPK pathways which stimulates protein synthesis, dna replication blah blah blah
5. igf-1 also inhibits apoptosis of osteoblasts which prolongs growth activity.

Doesnt necessarily grow your bones a lot but without it you can’t expect your bones to grow. High amounts of calcium and vitamin D is bare minimum if you want bone growth

Yeah, just making sure supplementing vitamin d isn't useless in any way. I already get sun exposure but I don't think it feels as *sure* as taking 2 pills and knowing that's like 2000 iu

Vitamin D only helps with making the bones, if you want to increase bone mass try taking vitamin D with calcium and going on a high protein diet

i've done some research on vitamin d and bone growth in teens myself. it does seem to play a role in calcium absorption and overall bone health, which is definitely important for facial structure development during puberty.
