Need a quick opinion on Diphenhydramine - been taking it recurringly for sleep and was wondering if it had any adverse effects on intelligence/cognitive function, heard it has cognitive impairment with long-term use but then studies go onto say that it is easily reversed after some small amount of time not taking it - it works to block H1 receptors (histamine receptors) but diphenhydramine as an antihistamine also inhibits acetylcholine, vital for memory adherence, but then I've also heard that it blocks H1 AND H3 receptors, which H3 receptors are actually responsible for decreasing the release of other neurotransmitters in the brain which INCLUDE acetylcholine and other stuff like dopamine/serotonin/etc etc

Can someone who's moderately knowledgable on the subject/looked through extensive studies help me out on this? I really want to continue using diphenhydramine but I like having sharp memory in my day to day life. Thanks a bunch

f it had any adverse effects on intelligence/cognitive function
YES IT DOES
I used to abuse that shit and that gave me brainfog, slowed my brain down and fucked with my memory. I used to study the effects of DPH a lot too and it has zero pros. Just some some other peptide mang (y)
So ur taking Benadryl
not before no, stuff i was taking before was diluted by 15% alcohol/other solvents to either assist or simply create texture for the sleep medication i was taking

in essence yes but im just wondering as a compound if it has any adverse effects on cognitive function

thank you for repping btw :love::forcedsmile:❤️❤️

how often? i used it daily quite a while ago then stopped for a VERY long time, then started using it again recently (low dosage/recommended amount, daily or weekly a couple of times)

does it eventually speed your brain back up after a while, and were you doing anythign else while using DPH? such as weed? alcohol? was it diluted with 15% alcohol? what was your dosage?

sorry for a bunch of questions ill prob mark your reply as solution just curious beforehand

If keeping your memory and attention sharp is a priority, don't use diphenhydramine regularly for sleep. Occasional use is one thing but habitual use carries anticholinergic load with plausible long term cognitive downsides. PLUS definitive brain fog. From my understanding when the drug clears from your system so do all the "positive" side effects of you feeling more memorable. It's like a hangover.

I did it almost every week and occasionally took 300-500 mg (was going through crazy shit) but I haven't abused it in 3 years now.

Since it's been 3 years my brain has definitely went back to normal. And no I wasn't doing any other drug nor drinking, I was around 12-14 at the time. But while I was taking it i had severe brain fog and I couldn't focus nor remember for shit. Benadryl also fucks up your liver too.

do any of you suggest any alternatives? i heard that there's some alternatives that don't directly contribute to that sort of anticholinergic load but i have my skepticism as they still include antihistamines (or not, that's why im looking to see if there are any alternatives to it)

where'd you get this from? im curious bc ive only been hearing the opposite

update: threw all my antihistamines away, thanks for the help, wasnt using it recurringly so im good but research papers/studies aren't ever actually clear about whether the side effects are long-term, short-term, or what either of those even mean (as in time period, is 2 months long term? is 2 years? idk, you can't even tell)

cheers boys, will see if i can mark all (or most) your posts as solutions

would appreciate rep if possible:forcedsmile::forcedsmile::forcedsmile:
