Intentionally going out to a nightlife venue to meet someone to settle down with was seen as a normal activity and things like matchmaking festivals were commonplace and not seen as desperate.
For anyone who didn't meet a partner through social circle, bars/venues were seen as a place to go to actively try to meet someone to settle down with so most people in the venues were there for a specific goal if they were single.
I'll outline how this changes later
2000-2009:
Possibly the Golden era for club slaying because seeking relationships were no longer the primary focus of dating and all voluntary M/F interactions
