If you push your hand on it the Plato expands(maxilla expanding) this is change from remodeling if you have teeth there too they will expand laterally due to maxilla expanding

Now imagine cutting a line through the center of the Plato and then pushing the sides apart, and then afterwards you fill the middle back in with Plato, this is the equivalent of MSE/suture expansion

both cases result in your maxilla widening, just in different ways and obviously the first one is slower
