Why the fuck do normies have weird “rules”

Something ive noticed is that most normies have some senseless “rule” they follow based on virtually nothing.

For example my friend was driving me somewhere and Google maps told us to get on this highway for like 8 minutes then get off. He refused to and took a longer route instead, I asked why and he said “he’s against using the highway for short periods” I asked why or what this was based on and he had basically no reasons

This is just one example but I’m sure we all have ran into this
