Face looks bloated with stubble.

For some reason when I grow stubble my face looks bloated and losses angularity. I'm 26% body fat right now, but I'm wondering if anyone else looks better clean shaven because of the bloated look stubble gives. It seems you have to be low bodyfat in order for stubble to look good.
