Just got my palate expander

1. Yea for sure. I’m 18 and doing it. The younger the better of course
2. If your IMW is greater than 39mm, it’s unlikely that your dentist will give you a palate expander
yeah fr, I'll try not to screw up alone thks

How high is your FWHR? .
Mine is 2.1 with 40mm IMW. Also I’m curious to see what it looks like, can you show your palate?

1.6 fwhr :lul:

I think 50-60 mm was a stretch :lul:

Is my palate narrow?
I think i have a crossbite of sorts, my palate is pretty asymmetrical. I should have gone to an ortho when i was younger, but my parents just didn’t have the money.

It looks slightly narrow. If I had to guess your IMW it’s about 38-39mm
I did the apple method and it looked like around 40 but idk. The front has crowding bit the back is wide, ts sucks so much bro i need an expander so bad 😭😭

lower jaw can adapt to the position of the maxilla to an extent.
This is me no clenching bad lighting, do you think my jaw is too narrow? I clench in my sleep too sometimes, idk if its cuz of anxiety or malocclusion. It comes and goes.

it’s hard to tell whether your jaw is too narrow. This looks like a selfie and selfies make your jaw look more narrow. Take a mirror pic and then I’ll decide whether it’s narrow or not

Why is my ipd so much worse in the mirror
It doesn’t look worse with the mirror since mirrors is how people see you naturally. If anything the selfies makes your IPD look better and this is due to lens distortion

Thanks for making this thread.
1. Which palate expander did you get from bracesshop? I can't identify it just from that picture.
2. Also, wouldn't it be a good idea to find a way to split the midpalatal suture so the perpendicular structures(e.g. zygos, infraorbitals) can also be affected? MSE/FME/MARPE/etc are very different in terms of affecting the neighboring structures: https://preview.redd.it/jh75d57kytz...p4&s=ffd4739cc62aaaf88c351f468c0b9f7b13b4cc5a
3. Any facial results yet?

1. The 3 way expander
2. Not sure if I’m not mistaken splitting the midpalatal suture tends to widen your nasal aperture a lot which can worsen facial aesthetics. From what I’ve seen widening the very back of the palate along with achieving CCWR via upwards and forwards force along the anterior portion of the palate seems to be ideal for aesthetics
3. Some zygo forward growth and cheeks are a bit more hollow.

Very, very, very high iq thread. Read all the responses as well.

Not directly related to that thread, but this could be a good idea:
1. The midpalatal suture is split using a device that focuses on expansion near the PNS and avoids expansion towards the ANS.
2. Once the midpalatal suture is split, only expand using said device a little bit. Make sure the suture does not fully fuse
3. Thumbpull towards the back VERY VERY hard as often as possible for as long as possible ONLY near the 2nd(3rd probably do not work) molars. If this happens with an open suture, no one on this planet can call it cope.

I want to do what I just mentioned + get a tooth/tissue borne expander or @CopeAndRope's method.

Two concerns:
1. Will this shorten my face as a whole? I will be perfectly fine if my midface gets shorter and that lost height goes to my last third. Otherwise, I don't want to shorten my face as a whole.
2. Wouldn't this shorten my chin? I'm not exactly willing to get surgery or fillers.

Some zygo forward growth and cheeks are a bit more hollow
Nice dude. Hope you get to chadlite at least.

Again, thanks.

2 more questions:
1. (mostly water) There are 3 types of expansion: tooth tipping, alveolar remodeling, and skeletal expansion. If your zygos changed, there has to be skeletal expansion. Did you get any of the other two? If your teeth moved, I will try to buy a reviv(https://reviv.substack.com) انشاء الله.
2. What's your opinion on @CopeAndRope's forward growth and CCW rotation appliance? If you can outline any issues with it, I will try designing my own and I'll hopefully make a post بإذن الله.

1. Yes it shortens the face as a whole.

Take a look at what CCWR does. It shortens the face as a whole

2. Yes it shortens the chin. Take a look a the gif above. Shouldn’t shorten it too much to be a problem though.

1. got both skeletal and teeth tipping.

2. If I’m not mistaken you’d have to wear a facemask with his appliance. In that case I couldn’t do it as I would imagine it would be uncomfortable to sleep with and I’m in contact with people constantly, I wouldn’t want them to know I wear some weird looking this on my face.

This would be a good facepuller in my opinion as you wouldn’t have to wear it all day long

Kind of disappointing. I guess I'll hold off on @CopeAndRope's method, or at least modify it.

I'm not too downgrown so hopefully it won't be that bad if I get further ccw rotation. TBH tho, it might be my african maxillary protrusion making seem like I'm not downgrown. I have moderate-low pct tho so it's probably not just my protrusion, but idrk.

Reviv it is, then.

Not exactly. It's not like orthodontic facemasks. It's like this: https://i.looksmax.org/attachments/2019/09/1511325_sdfghj54edfgh.jpg

If you modify your bed with like ropes(no pun intended) or something, it would probably be safer. If this is your only concern, I'll look into that device

Yes, but this allows for the most common thumb/facepulling criticism: you pull for 5 minutes, and your body has 1435 minutes to restore it. Even if a palate expander ensures that the lateral pressure isn't just a waste of time, the forward and upward pressure would indeed be a waste.

Worked a little. Saw some expansion. I am using it still. Got it because it’s better than nothing and also every orthodontist I went to rejected me for MSE considering my palate width is quite normal

My orthodontists rejected me for palate expansion period so RPE would be out of the question. I’m 18. MRE as in mandibular remodeling expansion?

What is the best palate with for noticeable change. I have 32mm and I want to have one too for aesthetic reasons. What's the best possible with for me as a 17 year old?

The best palate expander would be FME however it’s expensive and very few orthodontists actually do it. The next best option would be MSE the only downside is that it’s expensive but many orthodontists would be willing to do it on you.

If you want one that’s cheap get one from braces hop.com Id say the Active Plate expander is the best one there for getting a wider palate
